BMW M5 2023
Some automobiles have large bodies, while others are exciting. With a body based on the standard 5-series and a heart-and-lung transplant provided by the company’s M performance division, the BMW M5 is both. All four wheels are driven by an impressive 600-hp twin-turbo V-8 that is housed under the hood and connected to an eight-speed automated transmission. With 17 more horsepower, a soulful exhaust, a firmer suspension, and Competition badging and trim, an optional Competition package amps up the fire. In our tests, the model reached 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. The M5 delivers a luxury experience with a predilection for fireworks while being built to withstand the rigors of mountain hairpins, blasts on the autobahn, and daily life. The Bimmer’s sleek styling isn’t countered by a resonant exhaust, unlike its closest rival, but its excellent comfort and refinement place it among the finest in the luxury sports sedan market.
What has changed for 2023?
The 627-hp, limited-production BMW M5 CS from last year is no longer available, but the 2023 M5 gets a few minor feature upgrades. BMW currently sells the M5 Competition as an upgrade through an optional equipment package rather than as a distinct vehicle. There are now two new exterior paint choices: San Remo Green Metallic and Skyscraper Grey Metallic. All of the Brand’s discontinued metallic colors, including the Brand’s Hatch Grey, Snapper Rocks Blue, Motegi Red, Donington Grey, Bluestone, and Frozen Bluestone. Tartufo Full Merino leather and Individual Smoke White/Black Full Merino leather are now offered as interior choices, although the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System is no longer an option.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine in the basic M5 boasts 600 horsepower, making it a powerful vehicle. The number rises to 617 horses in the Competition, which is more track-focused. We brought the Competition model to a dynamometer since we thought its V-8 had much more power than that, and there are suspicions were confirmed. Both lived up to our expectations thanks to their incredibly fast acceleration, sports car-like cornering grip, and incredible stopping power. On the Grand Course at Virginia International Raceway during the 2019 Lightning Lap competition, the Competition also showed itself to be faster than the standard M5.
performance, transmission, and the engine
The standard twin-turbo 4.4 liter V-8 of the M5 produces 600 horsepower, making it a powerful vehicle. This number rises to 617 horses in the Competition that focuses more on the racetrack. We brought the Competition’s V-8 to a dynamometer in the hopes that it would confirm our concerns that it had even more power than that engine. Both the standard M5 and the Competition versions have our testing equipment attached to them. With brutally rapid acceleration, sports-car-like cornering grip, and incredible stopping power, both lived up to our expectations.
Connectivity and Information
The M5’s 12.3-inch touchscreen controls the most recent version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system. It is managed by the driver using a rotary knob on the center console. A Wi-Fi hotspot and basic Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also included in the system. On all variants, a wireless device charging port, and a 16-speaker, 600-watt Harman/Kardon audio system are included.
