DUNKIN’ DONUTS AND BASKIN-ROBBINS: GOING GLOBAL

No matter where you go, people need to eat. Many civilizations value food. It creates pleasant recollections of comfort meals or beloved foods that stimulate our appetites. No of the culture, sugar and sweets are a major culinary priority. Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins are popular American exports.

REVENUES

Dunkin donuts Baskin Robbins have been sold internationally for more than 35 years. The company has 14,800 distribution outlets in 44 countries and $6.9 billion in revenues.

Dunkin’ Donuts reopened in Russia in 2010 after an 11-year absence. Under a new agreement, “the anticipated shop openings come 11 years after Dunkin’ Donuts dropped out of Russia” Each culture has various food options and mealtime traditions. Globally conscious companies monitor their abroad activities and partners. Many firms with resellers, franchisees, and completely owned subsidiaries struggle to govern local operations.

LOCAL PARTNER

This wasn’t the first time Dunkin’ faced an enthusiastic local partner that wanted to modify operations. In the 1990s, local operators in Indonesia sprinkled mild white cheese atop custard-filled donuts. Since local customization was successful, the corporation authorized it.

LATE 1980’s

Dunkin donuts Baskin Robbins haven’t always been related. In the late 1980s, the two brands were merged under one corporation. Dunkin’ Donuts handled the morning market and Baskin-Robbins the afternoon snack market.

It worked successfully in the U.S., so the corporation used it when it expanded internationally. The corporation was unprepared for the cultural influence of local tastes and habits. In Russia, Japan, China, and much of Asia, donuts were more like éclairs or cream puffs if they were known. Locals ate them as an “impulse buy” afternoon snack, not for breakfast.

BASKIN ROBBINS FLAVOR

Cultures influenced tastes and preferences. Dunkin donuts Baskin Robbins flavor collection is in the US, but local operators recommend new flavors. Many native cuisines were incorporated on main menus in key markets, including the U.S., a decade later. Mango and green tea were popular 1990s Asian ice cream combinations. Latin Americans love dulce de leche. These tastes are North American classics.

POPULAR FRUIT

Southeast Asian taste proposal wasn’t used. Durian is a popular fruit in Southeast Asia, but it smells terrible. The pungent odor worried Baskin-Robbins management. (Durian’s pungent odor is forbidden in several expensive Asian hotels.)

While durian was never a flavor, the business made ube-flavored ice cream for the Philippine market. The corporation expanded it to the Philippines from Japan. Sweet corn and red bean ice cream were popular in Japan but never left the nation.

DUNKIN’ WHAT?

Even though Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin’ Donuts outlets are typically side-by-side, they haven’t merged. Dunkin’ offers iced coffee with ice cream flavors, but the two chains are independent.

The chain started offering Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches on Sept. 1. Customers may have any flavor of ice cream covered with fudge and sandwiched between a Dunkin’ Donuts Powdered Donut.

“With our new Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches, we’ve combined two of our brands’ most delightful sweet delights,” stated Dunkin’ Brands Executive Chef Jeff Miller.

WORKS?

Dunkin’s biggest difficulty is that ice cream sandwiches on doughnuts aren’t as shocking as they once were. Donut Ice Cream Sandwich sounds appropriate in a world of snack chip tacos and hamburgers on doughnut buns.

Dunkin’s may have an advantage since a doughnut ice cream sandwich sounds wonderful. This sounds absurd, but it’s more like Shake Shack adding chicken than the Marlins providing a hot dog taco.

ICE CREAM SANDWICH

The Donut Ice Cream Sandwich may not get much “I can’t believe that exists” media publicity. It may be a major seller for Baskin-Robbins and has sequel potential. Dunkin’ may introduce additional doughnut flavors to its ice cream sandwich, just as Taco Bell has with its Doritos.

This may not be an immediate grand slam, but it might be a slow-build hit with limited-time incentives and exclusive options. Dunkin’ delayed too long to launch the Donut Ice Cream Sandwich, but it may still be a smash.
