In 1984, Kurt was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS). ALS is a neurological disorder that causes muscle weakness and paralysis. However, over time the disease progressed rapidly and by 1990 Kurt was wheelchair-bound and unable to speak or eat without help.
