The Art of Grilling: How to Grill a Steak

If there is a cooking method in this little world that goes so well with every cut of meat, vegetables, fruit, and even dessert, it is on the grill. Whether subjective or not, grilling remains one of the most delicious ways to cook, combining super-fast simplicity with deeper flavors that seem to fit into all contexts of life.

1: Take your favorite piece of meat. We opted for three steaks this time such as steak, rib eye steak, and filet. However, you can adapt to the meat you like to eat.

2: Drizzle the steak with at least a little bit of straight extra virgin olive oil. We use here to drizzle, olive oil with garlic and rosemary. Season steak with salt and freshly ground pepper.

3: In the meantime, you should have already set up your charcoal/gas grill for grilling your steak (see one of our articles on how to light your charcoal grill) and now it’s time to oil it. You can use oil spray or an oil-soaked paper towel to coat it.

4: Place your steak on the grill and let it rest there for about five minutes per side. You may see some flames trying to grab the steak, but don’t move the meat after these necessary minutes. A good rule of thumb is that each inch of thickness should take about ten minutes to get to a medium consistency. 

5: After about 10 minutes you have the caramel color on both sides and also some grill marks, it should be time to get the steak out.

6: One step you will want to do at this point is to sear the meat pieces with a little butter. Rub the butter all over and let it melt on your steak, then cover the plate with your steak with a piece of aluminum foil and let it sit for about half the time you cooked it.

So we cook this one to about 125 degrees Fahrenheit so it’s medium done, but if you want to cook it a bit more, 140 degrees means medium and above that, it will check the temperature for doneness.
