Donny McCall, one of the most successful R&B/Soul singers of our generation, has a lot to say about his upcoming album, his relationship with Kanye West and more. In a recent interview with MTV News, McCall discussed his forthcoming album and how it came together. He also spoke about the process of reconciling with his former fans following his break from music in 2014.

“The album was definitely a labor of love,” said McCall of the LP. “I did it all myself- producing, composing and even singing on some songs.”

McCall’s relationship with Kanye West is something that he’s been open about discussing. The two have collaborated on multiple tracks for McCall’s new album, including “All Night” and “Flawless.”

Though their working relationship is tenuous at times – owing to differences in creative vision – McCall says that he still regards West as one of his musical idols. He also credits West for helping him to rediscover his love for music after taking a hiatus following the release of his last studio LP in 2014.

“Kanye gave me my break back,” said McCall. “He reached out to me after I took awhile off… We started working on some songs and it just felt good to be back in the studio again.”

After a 13 year career in the NFL, Donny McCall is retiring. The 33-year old McCall was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2002 NFL Draft and spent his entire career with that team. He played in 130 games with 54 starts and recorded 912 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, 7 receptions for 73 yards, and 1 receiving touchdown. McCall also had 16 punt returns for 176 yards and 2 kickoff returns for 98 yards. In 2010 he signed a five-year contract extension with Carolina but after the team released quarterback Jake Delhomme he was placed on injured reserve on November 5th, 2011. After being released by Carolina on August 31st, 2012, McCall signed a one-day contract to retire as a Panther. In his statement announcing his retirement, McCall said: “It has been an honor and privilege to play professional football for the Carolina Panthers over the past 13 years. I want to thank my coaches – especially Jerry Richardson – for giving me my opportunity and allowing me to represent this organization with class.”

McCall Announces New Album, Promises More Great Music

Donny McCall has announced a new album and promises more great music in the near future. The album, entitled “The Journey,” is set for release on September 15th and will be McCall’s first studio album in five years.
